League Chairman’s Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the Bolton Tennis Tournament in its 42nd year.

After several months of hard work by our team of volunteers, the tournament is now ready to commence. We are indebted to the Tournament Comittee, led by chairman, Andy Taylor, ably supported by Liz Perry, Tournament Secretary, and many more who each play their part.

The handicapping process has become more sophisticated this year with the availability of current year player performance statistics. Paul Cashmore has developed software for the league for processing results and player appearances. The performance statistics are generated from this software. These have given the handicapping team an additional resource in determining handicaps. This is a process that is never easy. Some will not be happy with the outcome but, hopefully, they will be few and matches will be competitive with everyone having an enjoyable experience.

Our sponsors enable us to stage this tournament at an affordable cost. Dunlop are the main sponsor but we are also supported by many local businesses. You will find them listed in this programme. Please support their businesses if you are in a position to do so. Many thanks to Lesley Jackson who has led our team developing links with sponsors.

We once more thank Markland Hill, Lostock and Meadow Hill tennis clubs for hosting the tournament for us. Their commitment and hospitality create an environment which enhances the enjoyment of playing and watching the tennis.

Finally, we welcome all our competitors and spectators. At the time of writing, it looks like we have some good weather ahead and we hope that it will hold for us.
